Services for Disabled Students

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Services for Disabled Students

At the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, we are committed to equality, diversity and a supportive environment for all. We welcome both home and international students with physical and sensory impairments, mental health issues, medical conditions and specific learning difficulties.

About our services

The Equality Act 2010 defines a disabled person as ‘someone who has a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities’. This includes HIV, cancer and multiple sclerosis. If you are in doubt about whether you will be eligible for any support, please contact us to discuss further.

The Disability Service is based in Student Services in Chancellor’s Mall. The Disability Advisors are available to offer confidential advice and guidance on all disability issues in relation to accessing your chosen course of study, as well as the relevant funded support such as the Disabled Students Allowance. This advice is available via one to one appointments, through drop-in sessions, over the phone or via email. If you would like more information about the service provided, please contact us.

There are currently over 14% of our student population at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø that have disclosed a disability or an additional learning requirement. These students, who have provided evidence of their disability or specific learning difficulty, are accessing support such as:

  • Car parking for blue badge holders where appropriate
  • Support in liaising with academic tutors and other relevant staff members.
  • Support in applying for the Disabled Students Allowance & Individual Assessments of Study Needs.
  • Equipment loans ie laptops, voice recorders.
  • Individual exam arrangements.
  • Library book loan extensions & help with retrieving and collecting books.
  • Coloured overlays.
