Sarah Mullen

Senior Lecturer, Bolton Foundation Trust Programme Lead

Sarah qualified as a nurse in 2006 from the University of Manchester, having worked in the care sector since 1999. Worked in Colorectal Surgery at Manchester Royal Infirmary for 12 months, then moved into a Hospice Staff Nurse role, progressing to Senior Staff Nurse and leading on development of Hospice Spoke days for Student Nurses.

Sarah took up a post at Pennine Acute Trust in 2011 and worked there for 10 years in various roles within Palliative and End of Life Care, including as a Specialist Palliative Care Nurse and in Teaching and Service Development. Undertook Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher and Professional Education at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø in 2020 which inspired a career move into Higher Education. Commenced in Lecturer post at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø in June 2021 and appointed as Senior Lecturer/Programme Lead for Pre-Registration Adult Nursing Bolton Trust in February 2023.

Research Interests and Research Subject Specialisms:
Supported a piece of research investigating the impact of redeployment into a new end of life care roles for clinical and non-clinical staff during the Covid-19 pandemic, prior to commencing at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø

Currently planning MSc (2023) research to examine student nurses’ preparedness for difficult communication scenarios with a view to developing teaching provision and support in this area.
