Study with an Off-Campus Partner
Melodie Neesom graduated from MMU in 1995, after which she worked as a freelance Illustrator in London for Random House, Opera North and Oxford University Press – then went to live in Tokyo Japan for 6 years. In Tokyo, she worked as a Fine Artist/Illustrator, Art promoter and Performance Artist.
During this period she was a regular contributor to the Tokyo Journal (Tokyo’s equivalent to ‘City Life’). Producing illustrations for editorials and short stories across a wide range of Japanese magazines. She also had the opportunity to work for television companies NHK, TBS and Fuji TV. For the latter, Melodie contributed photography, illustrations and small animation pieces for specific features relating to her experience of being a foreigner in Japan.
For Japan Airlines (JAL) Melodie was commissioned regularly to produce artworks for both their magazines and office installations. Additionally, she worked for Sparks Production Gallery and Design Agency as a freelance Illustrator and as a promoter for foreign artists resident in Japan.
Upon returning from Japan Melodie Studied for her MA at MMU, graduating in 2001.
Melodie worked for MMU for seven years where she taught on the Illustration with Animation BA course, she has also worked as an Animation tutor at Staffordshire University for 2 years and was Course Leader for BA(Hons)Illustration at Hull School of Art and Design for 6 years. Melodie currently lectures at Bolton School of Art & Design.
