Dr Abdul Salam Darwish

Lecturer

I am a lecturer in civil engineering, and have delivered undergraduate and postgraduate modules in environmental management and mechanical engineering. I have previously supervised 10 PhDs, over 35 dissertations at master’s level and a similar number of under-graduete dissertations in engineering and business management. I act as a PhD internal and external examiner. My main research interests are renewable energy, wind energy systems design and management, strategic management and environmental management.

My bachelor's is in mechanical engineering from the Engineering College in Baghdad – Iraq, my Master’s Membership is in Aeronautics from the Cranfield Institute of Technology and my PhD in Aeronautics from the University of Reading. I have several diplomas in business management and a PGCE from Huddersfield University. I am a visiting professor at the Excelia Group in La Rochelle Business School – France, where I have taught strategic management tools and techniques, international strategic management and production management since 2014.

I have seventeen years of practical aerodynamics experience, working in and creating many mechanical and environmental engineering laboratories. I designed and built a multi-bladed wind turbine for water pumping, used by students in experimental work. I have organised and attended many conferences, seminars and workshops on renewable energy and sustainable development themes, and I am currently supervising six PhD students. I am a reviewer for academic journals and books. I chair conference presentations, and act as an invited panellist in question-and-answer sessions. I have published more than sixty papers and have contributed chapters to three books.
