Are you studying a master’s degree in health and social care? Here are some top study tips!
For students doing a postgraduate health and social care degree, time management is everything. This subject is extremely hands-on and won’t just take place in a classroom. For instance, if you’re doing a part-time master’s degree at the ϳԹ, you’ll be juggling work and study at the same time.
We also have a number of professional development doctorates that require a 60,000 word thesis while you continue to work.
Whatever type of course you’re interested in, having a good study technique is key. So here are some study tips to help you out!
1) Use a week view planner
When you’re juggling classes, practical modules and work experience, it’s important to have a decent planner. A basic diary will not do. Invest in a good week view planner instead, and try to plan everything at least one week ahead.
2) Organise your travel in advance
Need to travel to an upcoming work placement? Plan your travel in advance so you don’t end up being late. Remember, high traffic times can make getting to your location harder, so factor that in or do a dry run if you’re using public transport.
3) Pack your bag the night before
Whether you’ve got a class or a placement day, make sure your bag is all packed and ready the evening before. For classes, make sure you have plenty of stationery and something to make notes with.
4) Type up your notes after class
When it comes to studying theory, it’s important to have easy-to-understand notes. To make sure you are taking everything in, type up your scribbles as soon as you get home.
5) Share notes with others
There’s a lot to learn during a master's degree in health and social care, and the likelihood is you won’t be able to jot down 100% of the things discussed in class. So buddy up with someone whom you can share your notes with to fill those missing gaps.
6) Form a study group
Teaming up with others is a great way of improving your studies. Group study is just as important as self-study, and the former can help you enhance your learning while exercising your collaboration skills.
7) Ask questions in class
By contributing more in class, you can fully immerse yourself in your health and social care degree. It’s important to ask questions if you need clarification, and if there’s a chance to share your ideas with others, do so.
8) Make time for friendship
Finally, the most successful students often have a good support network. Making friends on your course will help you study better and feel more confident about what you’re doing. This is also a fantastic way of building professional connections, because you never know who you might be working with in the future.
