Sharon worked in the NHS for 28 years before commencing at the University in 2022. Her last role was leading maternity safeguarding in a neighbouring NHS Trust as Named Midwife Safeguarding in a ‘Think Family’ corporate safeguarding team providing specialist advice, support, and guidance in line with statutory safeguarding requirements, legislation, and multi-agency procedures, devising and delivering safeguarding and domestic abuse training.

While working in safeguarding, she gained recognition from the police crime commissioner/deputy chief mayor of Greater Manchester for her work within domestic abuse services, and the team also won a Nursing Times award for patient safety.
She also has national recognition from the perinatal institute for implementing safeguarding recommendations into handheld maternity notes and is proud of a bespoke maternity pathway that she developed based on the findings of the NHSE Hidden Voices of Maternity report (2015), which was showcased at a virtual midwifery conference.

Sharon works as a nurse/midwife lecturer in pre-registration nursing, developing a passion for teaching and sharing knowledge while working in safeguarding and always being dedicated to helping and supporting others.
